Free Spins: Why the Number of Spins Is Not Their Cash Value
An offer of 100 spins can look twice as large as an offer of 50. Without the stake per spin and the conditions attached to returns, that comparison is incomplete.
Calculate the nominal stake allocation
Imagine offer A grants 100 spins at 0.10 units each, while offer B grants 50 at 0.40 units each. The nominal stakes are 10 and 20 units respectively. The offer with fewer spins allocates more total stakes in this example.
Neither number is a cash payment to the player. It describes how much is staked through the promotion. The rounds may pay nothing, and any returns may initially enter a restricted bonus balance. These are fictional offers used only to explain the arithmetic.
Expected returns are not withdrawable value
If all the spins in A used a hypothetical 96% RTP model under unchanged rules, their expected gross returns would be 10 × 0.96 = 9.60 units. This is an average across possible outcomes, not a prediction for the 100 spins.
It is also not the expected final cash-out after further conditions. Restrictions, subsequent play, expiry and conversion limits can change the result. Treating 9.60 as guaranteed cash would confuse several separate stages of the offer.
Follow the winnings through each stage
Suppose an offer produces 12 units of bonus winnings and requires those winnings to be wagered x30. Its initial credited turnover requirement is 12 × 30 = 360 units. At a 50% game contribution rate, that corresponds to 720 units of actual stakes, provided all other conditions are met.
If the hypothetical offer also caps conversion at 20 units, reaching a balance of 25 does not by itself establish that all 25 can be withdrawn. Read exactly when and how the cap applies. Reaching the turnover target is only one condition.
Compare terms using the same checklist
For each offer, record the spin count, stake per spin, eligible game, activation deadline and expiry. Then record where winnings go, which amount must be wagered, permitted stakes and any limit on conversion.
Check whether a deposit is required and what happens if you decline or cancel the offer. Do not assume a deposit condition from one promotion applies to another. If two offers use different games or restrictions, nominal stakes alone cannot rank their final value.
The most useful comparison is a clear description of each offer's obligations. A large spin count is a marketing quantity, not proof that the promotion will leave you ahead.
